Ashburton Dental Bonding
What is dental bonding?
Also known as composite bonding, it’s been used within the dentistry field for decades. It can be an ideal solution to repair teeth that are chipped, cracked, discoloured, misaligned, gapped or have silver fillings that need replacing. Dental bonding has the ability to give you the straighter, more dazzling smile you want, and it’s available at Cambridge Dental.
What are the advantages?
In addition to being an option to fix many common dental complaints, bonding is a conservative choice. There is minimal alteration to the enamel of your teeth and is completely reversible when no enamel has been removed. You’ll see immediate results, too.
A composite material is used in bonding, which can be a seamless match to the colour of your natural teeth for a perfect blend.
What’s involved in the procedure?
We want you to remain comfortable, so we’ll use a local anaesthetic that numbs the area of treatment. If needed, we’ll then administer an injection of additional anaesthetic. Next, we want to isolate the tooth being treated from the rest of your mouth, so we’ll use a thin sheet of rubber to keep the tooth dry so that saliva can’t compromise the composite’s ability to bond.
Then, the tooth is cleaned and prepared with a gel that roughens the surface. Glue is then applied as a bonding agent and set with an ultraviolet light. Finally, the composite is put on layer by layer, set with the light each time until the desired shape has been achieved. When completed, your restoration is polished to give a smooth, luminous look.
