The easiest, most effective way to keep your smile bright and mouth healthy is through regular brushing and flossing, as well as periodic dental checkups at Cambridge Dental. During these appointments, we’ll examine your teeth for any signs of damage or decay, gum disease and oral cancer.
We generally recommend biyearly visits, though if you have gum disease or weakened immunity, we may speak with you about having more frequent appointments.
What’s involved in a dental checkup?
After you arrive, you’ll meet with the dentist to discuss any concerns you’ve had since we saw you last. We’ll be sure and note anything new that’s affected your health, including medications you might have started taking. In proceeding with the examination, we will
- Assess for any signs of breakage or decay
- Check your existing restorations
- Evaluate gums for any signs of disease
- Examine your jaw joint
- Inspect for any signs of oral cancer
Every 2-3 years, we’ll likely take X-rays, though they may be required more often if there is a problem that warrants having these images taken.
What if I need further treatment?
In the event that you’ve formed a cavity or another dental issue that needs attention, we’ll work with you to create a treatment plan. You’ll be fully informed of all possible options and costs before deciding how you’d like to move forward.
When necessary, we can refer you to another dental specialist to get the care you require.
